Student Interview: Eleanore
Eleanore came to Lotus Town Yoga in January as a brand new yogi and started a daily practice. We asked a few questions to learn about her experience!
1. Why did you decide to start yoga? I started practicing yoga as a way of trying to do something positive for myself... to be good to myself. I need to manage stress better. I need to get in better physical shape. I need to have something to use throughout my day as a support -- an anchor -- to use in stressful times. I also wanted to challenge myself to learn something new.
2. You came for class every day in January, short of the two days we were closed. What was your experience having gone from practicing no yoga to practicing yoga every day? What I was definitely a little sore from practicing every day... from waking up lots of neglected muscles. But all the instructors are very accommodating during class, and offer many different variations, so a newcomer can adjust. As the month went on and I became more accustomed to practice, the soreness lessened.
3. Have you noticed any significant physical or mental changes this month? After practicing every day, I feel stronger, for sure. I wasn't expecting this... but my balance has improved, in just a month! I do practice the breathing techniques when I am stressed, and it helps calm me down. I am more aware of moving my body carefully -- mindfully -- during the day, during routine tasks.
4. Do you have any advice or encouragement to offer to those who are considering getting started with yoga or for those who would like to commit to a more regular practice? It did take some effort to rearrange my schedule so that I was able to attend class every day. But sometimes it was just a little adjustment, like getting up a little earlier so that I would have time. The main thing though, is that I have never, not once, regretted coming to class. It has always been a positive experience. If you want to do something good for yourself, this is a great way to start.
Are you ready to start yoga? All you need to do is show up! We are here for you.
